Church of the Machine chat with Mike Romeo - Saturday March 18, 2006

* MJR1 has joined #cotm
* Jax sets mode: +o MJR1
<MJR1> ok?
<Jax> yay
<MJR1> cool
<pollution> woohoo
<Jax> ok
(Just MJR, pollution, & Jax are present while the questions that were sent in via e-mail are asked)
<Jax> Samuel Adcock asks: Could you ask MJR if the CD is taking the darker direction that they said it would take before writing began, or is it taking another direction altogether?
<MJR1> The basic ideas and riffs are are a bit darker...the direction is still the same - for the most part
<Jax> Josh aka "sweepking" asks: I would like to know what MJR thinks of the work he did with Phantom's Opera.  He never talks about it.  I have that cd and although the style is different, he had some good solos and riffs on that cd.  Word from the Master and Dorian Grey have some great stuff in them.
<MJR1> that was along time ago...yes, a much different style - but we had a good time together, me and those guys - I think my playing was alot 'safer' then too, just because of the song styles
<Jax> Sergio Tapia asks: Would you think on coming to MEXICO for the next Tour? Would you suggest I could contact someone at InsideOut and see if I can get a promoter here to talk with the proper people to try and schedule some dates?
<MJR1> When the time comes to tour, we will get to everywhere we can - our manager will sort out the details - but it is still kinda early to plan ,when we need to finish the new CD - but we will get there
<Jax> Peter Dahlberg asks: You have been with Russell on other artists projects during the last few years (Kotipelto, Allen/Lande, Ayreon), will there be more of those or are you planning on doing a solo record like Russell and Michael did? Second Chapter perhaps?
<MJR1> my typing sucks ass
<Jax> lol
<MJR1> slow as hell
<pollution> hahah
<pollution> it's all good as long as the typing won't make your fingers slower for guitar playing ;)
<MJR1> Yes, I think I'm gonna start a solo CD after we finish this new one - there are like 5 hours of parts and riff that have accumulated over the last year - so I'll have a head start - as well as for the next SymX cd

<LichofHell> hey
* pollution sets mode: +m
<pollution> alright, the channel is set to moderated now, only MJR, Jax and I can talk currently
<MJR1> wassup all !
<Jax> ok Kanthor you're first..
* Jax sets mode: +v Kanthor_
<Kanthor_> thank you Jax!
<Kanthor_> Hi Mike, Hi Jax, Pollution
<MJR1> Hi Kanthor
<Kanthor_> Thank you for making this happen! this is very kind of you (symphony X) to take the time to speak with your fans and answer them!
<Kanthor_> so my first question would be,
<MJR1> no problem..you guys rule
<Kanthor_> I know all the great stuff you are doing with the orchestral keys etc,
<Kanthor_> and the fact you are inspired by writers such as John Willams,
<Kanthor_> I wanted to know if you never were asked to make music for a film / movie or why not video games?
<MJR1> I was asked for some small independent films - nothing major - but that is a difficult gig to get - and the band's music is very time demanding..so time is another factor
<MJR1> a video game would be cool tho
<Jax> is that all, Kanthor_?
<Kanthor_> well, yes actually Jax,
<MJR1> I would like to do it at least once tho
<Jax> ok :)
<Kanthor_> just wanted to add a last thing
<Kanthor_> Thanks for entertaining us with great music since the beginning of the band and allow us to dream a little bit in a "plastic world", you know what I mean...
<Kanthor_> Thanks for answering me Mike, I am a fan of a videogame scorer called "Jeremy Soule" and I thought maybe you could do stuff in the same vein...that was all thanks a lot for the answer!
<Jax> thanks Kanthor_. :)
<Jax> doomford you're next..
<MJR1> ok cool
* Jax sets mode: +v doomford
* Jax sets mode: -v Kanthor_
<doomford> Hi Mike. Hope Gigantour was as successful as I think it was for you. Although you guys have a very dedicated fan base, any plans on widening it? When can I expect to see you guys cater to the Avenged Sevenfold crowds? Wear some eyeliner, maybe some tight pants and emo-esque shirts, and throw some great “break downs” into your songs?
<MJR1> hi doomford
<MJR1> this guy is fast
<doomford> pretyped :)
<doomford> online spelling isnt my strong point
<MJR1> ?
<MJR1> eyeliner?? i dont think so
<doomford> just wondering. Thanks for entertaining the question
<MJR1> we do what we do...thats it
<doomford> Thanks for your time
<MJR1> ok cool
<Jax> that it, doomford?
<doomford> yup
<Jax> ok, thanks. Progman you're next..
* Jax sets mode: +v Progman
* Jax sets mode: -v doomford
<Jax> Progman?
<Progman> What's the next album gonna be like
<MJR1> - still pondering the eyeliner question..hmmm
<MJR1> hehe
<MJR1> heavy - dark - melodic - all that good stuff
<MJR1> similar to Odyssey and Divine maybe a bit darker
<Progman> Hope to see you guys soon in belgium
<MJR1> things are still taking shape..but the initial ideas were pretty heavy and dark
<MJR1> ok see you soon
<Jax> is that it, Progman?
<MJR1> hang on - coffee refill...
<Jax> hehe ok
<Progman> Yes thanks
<Jax> thanks Progman :)
* Jax sets mode: -v Progman
<Jax> [intermission while MJR gets coffee]
<MJR1> in my Odyssey coffee mug..biotch
<Jax> hehe
* Kanthor_ is now known as MIKE_UR_THE_BEST_LOL
<MJR1> ok
<MJR1> im back
* Jax sets mode: +v Ilias
<Jax> ok Ilias you're up..
<Ilias> Hi Mike
<Ilias> I cannot believe I am talking to you...
<MJR1> hi Ilias
<Ilias> You are one of my favorite bands, which is why I am here of course. :P You are one of the most talented bands I've ever heard in my 14 years of Metal. So the question is, is there a chance of going back to more classical music, more like the days of TDWoT? Honestly, I liked the classical better than the darker/heavier stuff but that's just me.
<MJR1> I like both - equally - but we are always trying new things and the classical stuff was getting to a point were we need to evolve the music a bit. There is still alot of classic influence in the - not as obvious tho
<MJR1> in there
<MJR1> like inferno - not as obvious as Ashes..say
<Ilias> Ok thank you. Also thank you for honoring us Greeks by doing the Odyssey. You are the best! :)
<MJR1> but a classical influence with a heavier arrangement and riffs
<MJR1> ahh..yes
<MJR1> thank you !!!
<Jax> is that it, Ilias?
<Ilias> Yes. :)
<Jax> thanks :) Ann Marie, your turn :)
* Jax sets mode: +v AMBR
<AMBR> Hey Mike, Ann Marie from Neptune, NJ here. I haven't kept up on the news so pardon me if everyone knows all this. What is the progress of the new project? Gotta tentative/vague release date?  Is it theme oriented? Hitting any particular topics? Got a title? (pretyped)
* pollution sets mode: -v Ilias
<MJR1> hi Ann Marie
<MJR1> Well, we have about 5 tunes finished...still making adjustments and noodling a bit
<MJR1> we are trying to get everything done in the next few months
<MJR1> ( yeah..sure )
<MJR1> but is is going good
<MJR1> as far as topics...we have alot of different stuff
<MJR1> Russ has been working on some lyrics - Mike L has been reading some Lovecraft, etc. so we have some ideas
<AMBR> Cool. I liked what you did with Kotipelto's solo stuff, He's working on a new one. Will you contribute? Anyone else you'd like to work with?
<MJR1> It looks like we will have a BIG tune on here - it is turning out that way now
<MJR1> Paradise Lost is the theme as of now
<MJR1> If Timo calls me to do something - I would be happy to do it
<MJR1> anyone else..hmm not really anyone in particular
<AMBR> Haven't seen you do a full set since ProgPower. Gigantour was such a tease. Any chance of a one-out gig in NJ in your "free time"? Starland? Stone Pony? My backyard? LOL. (I throw a helluva BBQ.)
<Jax> hang on a sec, Mike has to run downstairs & charge the phone, we killed it hehe
<MJR1> we wont do a full set till the CDs is done - we really need to focus
<MJR1> brb
<MJR1> ok
<Jax> is that it, Ann Marie?
<AMBR> OK, thanks. That's if for me. Hope to run into you again at B.B. Kings or the Jersey clubs.
<Jax> :)
<Jax> ok porc321___, you're up..
<MJR1> see ya soon

<porc321___> cool
<porc321___> Hi Mike. Greetings from Canada's far far west coast. Can't wait for the next album & cotm cd #2. Anyways, here's my question... (pretyped)
<MJR1> hi porc
<porc321___> What 3 places would like to gigs in?
<MJR1> hmm...
<MJR1> well, we havent been to Japan in a while - that was fun
<MJR1> I really like playing here in the States
<porc321___> alright
<MJR1> we have never been to Australia yet..so maybe there
<MJR1> and yes...Canada too..hehe
<Jax> heh
<porc321___> Ever been to vancouver?
<MJR1> yes
<porc321___> must of been a long time ago, i don't remeber it. :)
<MJR1> I dont remember when either...
<Jax> hehe :)
<Jax> is that it, porc321___?
<porc321___>  yah, thanks for doing this chat...
<Jax> :)
<Jax> ok Indytims, your turn..
<MJR1> cool
* Jax sets mode: +v Indytims
* Jax sets mode: -v porc321___
<Indytims> Thank you for taking the time to join us, Mike! Tim from Indianapolis, Indiana here. I am a new fan and just wish I would have known about you guys years ago. I have a desperate need to see you guys again in concert! Have you guys any plans at this point to tour in the US this summer or fall? Another possible Gigantour tour? Or do you want to headline a tour with the new album?
<MJR1> After the new CD is finished - we will plan alot of touring...definetly here in the States and wherever else we can go
<MJR1> as for another Gigantour..I'm not sure what the status is
<MJR1> if they ask us back - we would love to do it again
<MJR1> ok?
<Indytims> Awesome! Thank you for stopping in Ft. Wayne, Indiana last summer and putting on a heck of a show! Love the “long” tunes you guys come up with (Odyssey is my favorite SX song) and looking forward to the new album!
<MJR1> thanks alot ...see you soon
<Jax> thanks Indytims :) Jon, you're up..
* Jax sets mode: +v Jon
<Jon> Hey, first I wanted to thank you for the material on fan club CD.  Really love the Star Wars track.
<MJR1> hi Jon
* Jax sets mode: -v Indytims
<Jon> Now, as a fellow guitarist, I’m curious how you write your solos.  As in – do you always try to do something fresh and original that’s new for Sym X, or do you have a pattern that you use when writing them?  Also, how long does it usually take for you before your satisfied with a solo (I find it’s one of the most time-consuming parts in writing *for me*, as its something I always keep fine-tuning)
<MJR1> that was fun stuff
<MJR1> I wish i had a better recording of it tho
<MJR1> maybe next time....
<MJR1> for the solos I usually start by improvising some ideas...
<MJR1> take a bunch of takes on it..
<MJR1> then start to find the phrases and ideas I like best
<MJR1> and then put it all together
<MJR1> and not to many takes - sometimes you lose that vibe
<MJR1> sometimes you get lucky with a take or two and thats the one
<Jax> ok I guess Jon's done then..hehe.
<MJR1> ok then
<Jax> Pastorius, you're up..
* Jax sets mode: +v Pastorius
<Pastorius> hey Mike, thanks for doing this :)
<MJR1> no prob bro
<Pastorius> my question is
<Pastorius> Obviously you're a fantastic guitarist, and you have mastered a lot of techniques. Do you ever try out new techniques, like piano style tapping, or do you concentrate more on keeping your current techniques honed?
<MJR1> Once in a while I will try to noodle with a new idea..and if it's cool..I'll try to incorporate it
<Pastorius> awesome. the new album....just how dark are we talking?
<MJR1> well...some of the concepts and riffs are darker than usual
<MJR1> not every song either
<MJR1> we have some things that are along the lines of Accolade or Edge of Forever kinda stuff
<MJR1> so a mix of everything
<MJR1> just darker
<MJR1> hehe
<pollution> alright Pastorius, are you finished?
<Jax> brb
<Pastorius> yeah, thanks again Mike. make sure you come to the UK to tour the new album! (specifically Wales)
* pollution sets mode: +v MetalChick
* pollution sets mode: -v Pastorius
<pollution> okay Amanda, go :)
<MetalChick> :)
<MetalChick> hey Mike
<MJR1> ok see ya
<MetalChick> so i have a kind of odd question for you...
<MetalChick> about the song Smoke and Mirrors
<MetalChick> i wrote a story based on my interpretation of the lyrics, and i was wondering what the lyrics mean to you?
<MJR1> hi Amanda
<MJR1> hmm...
<MJR1> those lyrics were about our situation at the time
<MetalChick> oh?
<MJR1> about some of our thoughts about the business
<MJR1> it is about us - at the time
<MetalChick> awesome, that's what i thought too
<MetalChick> good to know
<MetalChick> can i ask a really dumb question?
<MJR1> sure
<MJR1> can I give a dumb answer?
<Jax> haha
<MetalChick> hahaha sure
<MJR1> hehe
<MetalChick> do you ever plan to cut your hair?
<MetalChick> the answer better be NO
<Jax> haha
<MJR1> hehe
<MetalChick> ;)
<MJR1> well if anymore falls out I might have too
<MetalChick> aww hehe
<MJR1> I am stressed - getting some grey in there
<MetalChick> yeah, i bet it's really stressful right now
<MJR1> its all good
<MetalChick> so that's all i have then, good luck with the new album, can't wait to see you in Chicago again!
<MJR1> alot of pressure with this new one
<MJR1> ok see you soon!
<Jax> thanks Amanda..ok LichofHell, your turn :)
* Jax sets mode: +v LichofHell
<MJR1> jax - you there?
<LichofHell> Hey MIke!!  Thxs for doing this chat...You guys rocked at  Gigantour!!
<Jax> yep :)
* Jax sets mode: -v MetalChick
<LichofHell> heres my question
<LichofHell> Which 3 albums out of the Sym X catalog are your favorites and why??  Which album has been the most difficult to write/record??  Which general direction do you see the band moving musically in the future (ex. Heavier, more progressive, etc) ???
<LichofHell> Im guessing the answer to the second question is the lastest album
<MJR1> The Odyssey is my favorite all around and for the songs
<MJR1> Divine is a close second because there is a similar magic that happened on that one that happened again on the Odyssey
<LichofHell> Definitely
<MJR1> something you cant really explain
<LichofHell> Those 2 are my favorite as well
<LichofHell> well...thxs for the responses!!!  Hope you guys tour the states soon after the new album is finished!!!
<MJR1> With Divine there was more classical style stuff...and I think we did as much with that as we could - it was time to try new things with V and Odyssey
<MJR1> ok cool
<LichofHell> ya
<LichofHell> I feel V and the Odyssey tooka  new direction
<MJR1> yep - just trying to keep it fresh
<Jax> is that it, LichofHell? :)
<LichofHell> ya
<MJR1> things can get stale quick if you just do the same old shit
<LichofHell> thxs alot
<MJR1> ok thanks
<Jax> thanks :) Bob, you're up..
* Jax sets mode: +v Bob
<Bob> Hi Mike...didn't want to make you wait while I typed, so I pre-typed...
* Jax sets mode: -v LichofHell
<Bob> I got a chance to speak with you during the last chat session (I was the guy who asked about changing the delay part at the end of “The Odyssey” live).  I also met you at Gigantour in Poughkeepsie…you signed my red Kramer-looking guitar.
<MJR1> hi bob
<Bob> I just want to say thanks dude.  Every time I’ve seen you live (6 times) all of you ROCKED.  It must be hard to play every night and always put out 100%, but trust me...we notice it AND appreciate it!!!
<MJR1> thanks alot - it means a lot to me for people to notice what we do
<Bob> I have to ask though...is there any way at some point you can post the settings for your Vetta amp online for the fan club using Line 6 EDIT or whatever Vetta software you use?  It would be awesome to jam to your songs using your actual sound.  I imagine you're probably WAY too busy with the new album to do so, but I had to ask.
<MJR1> very cool and thanks
<MJR1> Once we finish this CD there are a few things like that I'd like to do
<MJR1> just hang in there
<MJR1> I always change my setting like every week!!!
<Bob> Cool!!!  Thanks a lot for doing this and if at all possible, come back to Toad's Place (New Haven, CT) when you guys tour again!!
<MJR1> endless noodling going on here always
<MJR1> I'm sure we will
<Jax> thanks Bob :) Metrock, your turn..
<Bob> Well, take care...you'll see me at the next show.
* Jax sets mode: +v Metrock
<MJR1> see ya soon Bob
<Metrock> Hey Micheal. Damn. its an honour talking to you man =)
<MJR1> cool
<Metrock>  I'm Patrick by the way! from all the way here in Norway. I fell in love right away  when I first heard you =) hehe.. your influence is huge on me!
<Metrock> I'm actually sitting here with beloved guitar right now.. hehe
<MJR1> thanks Patrick .. what guitar is it?
<Metrock> esp
<MJR1> yup .. cool
<Metrock> kirk hammet signature
<Metrock> would love a signature model of you
<Metrock> ever thought about it?
<MJR1> color =black..right?
<Metrock> jeee!!
<MJR1> maybe one day
<MJR1> I'm using Caparison guitars now
<Metrock> expensive though
<Metrock> Here is some awesome question for you =) lol
<MJR1> they made me the perfect instrument
<Metrock> yeah they are the best
<Metrock> How do\did you practise to get to the point where you are now. did you play alot of  techniques or just playing alot of songs ? How many times a week do your band rehears? And how long does it take for you guys to  make a song?
<MJR1> When I was younger - still in high school - I used to practice alot- ALOT
<MJR1> just learning Randy Rhoads - Van Halen DiMeola - Yngwie - all that stuff
<Metrock> are you talking about 10+ hours a day?
<MJR1> sometimes
<Metrock> i'm learning to play like you right =) hehe
<MJR1> Then I would just lay down drum and rhythms parts to jam over
<Metrock> jeee
<MJR1> improvising - devoping my own style - just trying new things
<Metrock> but ever thought of visitingNorway in the future?
<Metrock> that would be awesome!!!
<MJR1> I think we were there with Stratovarious
<Metrock> some years ago?
<pollution> Mike still remember any bad Finnish words from that tour? sorry i had to ask :)
<Jax> lol
<Metrock> but i'm not 18 yet and if you played at rockefelleer you have to be!!
<MJR1> I remember them
<Metrock> hehe
<Jax> is that it, Metrock?
<MJR1> Vitun Hinti
<pollution> hahaha, thanks mike
<Metrock> but if come to the sweden rock festival i'l be there!
<Metrock> Yeah. thanks for you time Michael!.. Really apprecciate it.. Keep on rocking like  allways! Can't wait till your next album comes out.. Hope to see ya in sweden...
<MJR1> ok see you there
<Jax> thanks Metrock :) olivarulez, you're up..
* Jax sets mode: +v olivarulez
* Jax sets mode: -v Bob
* Jax sets mode: -v Metrock
<olivarulez> Hey there MJ! This is MJ too (Michael J) lol
<MJR1> hey MJ
<olivarulez> I had 3 quick questions, I guess one was kinda already answered though...
<MJR1> ok shoot -
<olivarulez> 1st was your relation with Caparison...I guess you don't technically have a MJR model as of yet...are you playing some form of an Apple Horn?
<MJR1> no - Dellinger Model
<MJR1> custom MJR model
<olivarulez> I played an Applehorn once, it was really cool...then again, Mattias IA Eklundh is really freaky! Ever met him??
<MJR1> I think we met once in Sweden at a festival
<olivarulez> lol sweet, he cracks me up
<olivarulez> 2nd question...
<MJR1> he is a great player
<olivarulez> on Gigantour...was that the first time you guys were ever on the same bill as Dream Theater? If so, did you hang out with any of the guys backstage? Mike Portnoy just moved like 10 miles from here and Petrucci is supposed to be moving here as well...curious if you gave each other pointers or jammed or anything
<MJR1> we hung out quite a bit - John and I talked about gear and all that fun stuff...a great bunch of guys - totaly awesome dudes
<olivarulez> awesome, I actually went to MP
<olivarulez> house recently, he wasnt home thoug lol
<olivarulez> Final question...
<Jax> make it short, please..still lots of people waiting. :)
<olivarulez> Shadow Gallery is another one of my favorite bands...3 of the guys are actually from around here too...any chance you'd like to do anything with them? Ever met or talked with any of them?
<MJR1> I've talked with Brendt a few times - like..years ago -
<MJR1> yeah..long time ago
<olivarulez> oh ok, well thanks for your time MJR ! you rule man!
<MJR1> cool thanks
<Jax> thanks olivarulez :) BRETT_, your turn..
* Jax sets mode: +v BRETT_
<BRETT_> Greetings from Cali, Gigantour seemed to be a huge promotional oportunity for you guys. Glad to see you guys playing for larger crowds here in the States. I'm sure I speak for everyone that we all wish you guys success. I was wondering how the gigantour experience for you was. Did you in enjoy it? or was it a complete pain in the ass? Both? And how did you and the other bands get along?
* Jax sets mode: -v olivarulez
<MJR1> Gigantour was a great thing all around
<BRETT_> Well thats all I got Good luck to you in the future
<Jax> Mike, we have a few more people waiting, can we keep going or do you need to bail?
<MJR1> we had a great time - all the guys from the other bands were cool
<MJR1> and alot of new people got to see us
<MJR1> one sec - more COFFEE
<Jax> ok :)
<Jax> thanks BRETT_ :)
* Jax sets mode: -v BRETT_
<MJR1> ok im here
<Jax> ok Vinnie, you're up
* Jax sets mode: +v Vinnie
<Vinnie> Hey Mike. It's almost 6am here and I've just finished unloading my drumkit so forgive my tired nature (if it ever shows).
<MJR1> no problem I understand completely
<Vinnie> Good answer about the eyeliner earlier (and the mention of Australia!). (doomford: that was weird dude!! This is SymX, not Poison!!!) Nevertheless, what are the chances of us Aussies seeing you guys play here? Have any promoters been reasonable with their offers (if any) to do a brief tour here? Otherwise, would it bother you if I were to start up a covers band to whet the appetites of my fellow proggers here? Also, Jason seemed to be quite restra
<Jax> your question got cut off..Also, Jason seemed to be quite restra
<Vinnie> Ah
<Vinnie> Also, Jason seemed to be quite restrained in Odyssey. Is he breaking loose in the new album at all, in the same vein as V?
<Vinnie> That's all of it now.
<Vinnie> Thanks Jax!
<MJR1> well..what ever the song calls for .. thats how we look at it
<Vinnie> Understandable. I was seeing into the songs differently, but that's just me :)
<MJR1> As for touring there - we need to get a really solid schedule together after the new CD is out
<Vinnie> That is definitely a comforting response.
<Vinnie> Well, those were my questions, so thank you very much for taking the time to answer them mate. I await the new album with baited breath as always. Cheers!
<Vinnie> I'll hold off the cover band idea then until I hear you say "No, we're not coming."
<Vinnie> heheh
<Vinnie> Thanks again mate.
<Jax> thanks Vinnie :) Haggicide, you're up..
* Jax sets mode: +v Haggicide
<MJR1> ok see ya
<Haggicide> Hey, Mike.  Thanks for the chat.  Some of my questions were already answered, but here goes.  Why Caparison?  I have never played one, but I checked out their site, and the guitars don't seem all that different from your ESP in specs.
* Jax sets mode: -v Vinnie
<MJR1> well..they designed the neck to my exact specs
<MJR1> I had this old Kramer neck that was my favorite
<MJR1> and they modeled the neck after that - the fingerboard isnt as wide as the ESP
<MJR1> and more of a radius on the neck
<Haggicide> I talked to you after the Omaha show in '03, and wanted to build you a guitar.  I make neck-thrus, and I was wondering why you seem to prefer bolt-ons.  Is there a reason, or just habit?
<Haggicide> Plus it sounds like you prefer more of a tele neck than a stereotypical "shredder" guitar neck.
<MJR1> I abuse my guitars - so if a neck breaks - I can replace it - with a neck through - its a different story
<MJR1> guitars are NOT funiture to me
<Haggicide> Thanks for your time, and I can't wait  for the new album and see you in concert again!
<MJR1> ok cool
<Jax> thanks Haggicide, good questions :)  flail, you're up!
* Jax sets mode: +v flail
* Jax sets mode: -v Haggicide
<flail> Mike: what's your three all-time favourite albums (any genre) - and why?
<MJR1> wow..tough one
<MJR1> hmm..let me think a sec
<flail> get some coffee, it'll help:)
<Jax> lol
<MJR1> Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell
<MJR1> Rush - Hemispheres
<MJR1> Stravinsky - Rite of Spring
<flail> cool! btw thanks with all the work on the fanclub CD - we do appreciate it!
<MJR1> ok thanks
<Jax> thanks flail :) CountDracula, your turn..
* Jax sets mode: +v CountDracula
* Jax sets mode: -v flail
<CountDracula> hi mere mortals!
<MJR1> wassup Count
<MJR1> yikes
<CountDracula> getting old lol
<MJR1> hehe
<CountDracula> hi michael- first of all thanks for ur efforts with syx, and for being with us now. I have few questions;1st, Don't want to talk about Gigantour again, but more about Megadeth & Dave Mustaine. Did you like to listen to Megadeth in the past, was they a band you liked and what did you think about old Marty Friedman' stuff?
<CountDracula> hope this helps speeding things up'
<MJR1> My favorite Megadeth stuff is with Marty
<CountDracula> RUst in peace times??
<CountDracula> metaal :)
<MJR1> Cacophony and Marty and Jason's solo CD were awesome
<MJR1> yes
* Jax sets mode: +i
<CountDracula> 2nd question, how the hell did you "really" start... I mean, today your band is one of the most known prog bands around, but there are quite a lot of incredible players outhere as well. Was it all luck? Which kind of "levers" did you use, i mean; how did you make people know about u- sent labels demos? stuff like that?
<CountDracula> cool :) love these CD's
<MJR1> I loved the dissonance - and exotic scales

<MJR1> hey...aloha yep
<MJR1> hehe
<Curu> In the most recent Guitar Player magazine, an article compared you to the mighty Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit fame. How do you respond to such a comparison, and do you hope to ever become as awesome as Wes Borland?
<Jax> oh lord
<Jax> haha
<Curu> Ok ok, I didn't really have a question
<Curu> What's the "J" stand for?

<MJR1> lol ya OK
* Jax sets mode: +v Magician
<Magician> Hi there this is Oganalp from Turkey
* Jax sets mode: -v Curu
<Magician> I have 3 small questions for you Michael (answers are short i mean :P)
<Magician> I wanted to ask whether if it is possible to have you SX people as guest(s) in my band's next studio album as we are fans of your band. We previously had Gary Wehrkamp from Shadow Gallery and for our next cd, we are in touch with Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) and we would LOVE to have you as well. My band's name is Dreamtone and the website is www.dreamtone.net
<MJR1> ok shoot
<MJR1> we are extremely busy with the new CD...but if you want to send some tunes to us to check out - go for it
<Magician> thanks, i ll talk with Jax about it. here s my second questions
<MJR1> i can check out your site as well
<Magician> I think you have a studio. Do you accept other bands there? And if yes, how much would booking a session cost?
<MJR1> i have a studio here in my home, but dont really do other bands - way too busy
<Magician> sure thing, go ahead.. we are particularly young to be something that solid like SX though :d
<Magician> ok last question
<Magician> And last, last year, when we were talking with Russell, he said that you had some kind of a frequency problem at the studio while recording his stuff for Atomic Soul. What was that problem about?
<MJR1> the room wasn't acoustically tuned at that point - I spent some time and cahs on it - its all cool now
<MJR1> cash
<Magician> ah ok! Thank you Michael, take care and be well!!
<MJR1> pretty darn accurate for tracking and mixing
<MJR1> ok cool
<Magician> ic :)
<MJR1> good luck with everything
<Jax> thanks Magician :)  Marco, you're next..
<Magician> thanx :D

<MJR1> hi Marco
<Marco> First of all, thanks for having this time with all of us
<Marco> I think I have two quick questions
<MJR1> ok
<Marco> first is, do you guys have plans to come play in Brazil? Last time you guys were here was in 1997 and we miss you guys hehe
<MJR1> I know - we had plans to tour there last year - but it fell through
<Jax> brb
<MJR1> we definetly will be back after the new CD is out
<Marco> that's great to hear :) I'm sure you guys will have a very good time here ...
<MJR1> im sure we will
<Marco> My second questions is, we've just started a Tribute band to you guys here and we wanted to know your opinions about it :) we have website and everything and we will start to play maybe in 3 months ..
<MJR1> cool - what songs are you doing?
<Marco> We started with Damnation Game, Dressed to Kill, Secrets, Out of the ashes, Fallen and Eyes of the medusa
<MJR1> cool stuff
<pollution> thanks a lot Marco, are you done?
